Virtural Server "DORA" is alive and breathing. The server contains the power of 16 previous servers. Using less that 250 watts of power compainred to the previous 12 single box servers we were running at 400 to 1400 watts each. This represents an effeciency increase of over 98% in energy usage while consolidating and increasing availablilty of network services.
This upgrade has been put off several years. Until this upgrade we still had the two original servers, from when the network at Marist was created, still online and functional.
We have consolidated all network storage (your "Z" drives and any departmental storage as well as the student stogare) onto a SAN (Storage Area Network).
This allows all domain users to access file in the same space depending upon their personal security settings.
The domain structure has also changed from three seperate domain spaces isolated from each other to one secured master domain with Organizational Units and locks allowing or disallowing specific user groups to access specific areas of the network.
Our current domain space is MHS.local. Any other domain you might see is still legacy machines that have not been migrated yet. We currently have over 250 systems onsite and over 700 users on our domain.
